About
the Artist
I am a native of Wisconsin and full-blooded cheese head. I can't imagine living anywhere else. I love the changing seasons and the variety of terrain that characterizes our great state. We have hills and bluffs as well as vast expanses of rolling farmland, our bounty of lakes and streams, a great assortment of evergreen and deciduous trees, wild and cultivated flowers and a vast array of indigenous wildlife offers more landscape inspiration than I could use in five lifetimes!!
I have always been an artist, but I think almost everyone is in one way or another. Maybe that's the teacher in me talking, but I truly believe we are all born with the desire to bring something into this world to make it a better place, for ourselves or for others. If we just broaden our definition we begin to realize that a lovingly restored automobile, a well tended flower garden and a fresh batch of chocolate chip cookies aren't that different from a successful painting. None of these things would exist without a creator and in their own way, each makes our world a nicer place to be.
I love to paint, but make no mistake, it's hard work and it's rarely easy. In fact, if it seems easy, that usually means I'm botching something up in a big way! Sometimes I think I may be a bit of a masochist, or maybe it's my stubborn Norwegian heritage but I don't like to give up. For me a painting needs to be just right or set aside to be reworked at another time. I have one painting that has been completely redone three different times!
On a more personal note, I live in River Falls,Wisconsin with my two cats, Boje and Marmelade where I teach K-5 art. My students are fabulous. They keep me young. You just can't beat the sincerity and enthusiasm of elementary aged children.
Thanks for visiting my site.
